Fronted by Rankin, This Is Britain is a nationwide crowd-sourced photography project that aims to shoot, edit, design, print and publish the must-have 2017 Christmas book in just twelve days – all in aid of BBC Children in Need.
And it all starts with you! Over one long weekend in October – Friday 20th, Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd – we are calling on YOU, the Great British public, to take a snapshot of British society as it is today.
The aim is as simple as it is ambitious: to capture the essence of a day-in-the-life of the people and communities that make up our nation
– the faces & places, moments & rituals, as shot by thousands of everyday people going about their daily lives.
At least 500 of the most engaging pictures will then be selected by Rankin to appear next to additional images taken by
some of the nation’s leading photographers & photojournalists – including David Montgomery, Alex Lake, Paul Postle and Christopher Furlong.
Working through the night, these will then be passed on to a crack-team of leading editors and designers
who will (*deep breath*) produce a print-ready book in just 12 days using the latest print-on-demand technology from Photobox.
The result will amount to a photographic state-of-the-nation self-portrait, of the people and by the people of Great Britain – a spectacular 320-page coffee table tome that will be available to buy from Friday 17th November 2017, with all profits donated to BBC Children in Need.
So have your camera or smartphone at the ready for the big Shoot Weekend – and get involved!
